Competition – construction of a viewing platform with a descent to the “Dubai Beach” in Jarosławiec, Postomino commune

Strandzugang

Observation Platform
The space is designed to gently climb upwards, leading to the culminating point of a viewpoint suspended like a bridge over the beach and the trees and shrubs growing on the active cliff. The observation deck, in the form of a walking platform, narrows and widens, enhancing the walk, and its elliptical shape creates an additional exploratory experience. Views of the sea and Dubai’s beaches extend from the entrance to the platform in the park square through a fifteen-minute walk along the footbridge, never interrupting the viewing areas. The structure’s gradient is approximately 6%.

Park Square
The design offers an attractive space that engages passersby and encourages lingering. When using the park square, our perception is not limited to the square itself. This space is created by viewing axes and communication links. Defining it based on a contemporary approach to public space design, embracing an innovative and environmentally friendly approach to shaping urban spaces, is one of the main ideas guiding this project. The square’s shape, along with its viewing platform, is designed based on elliptical shapes, directly referencing the dunes and sea waves. The square serves as an open, vibrant space, suitable for festivals, fairs, occasional markets, and special outdoor events requiring the installation of a temporary, small stage, courts for streetball tournaments, an ice rink, and even mini-trains and carousels. It is a place associated with town promotion, education, entertainment, and recreation. It is a green oasis, providing a substitute for a playground for children and adults. It is a contemporary urban meadow where both young and old can run freely. Deckchairs and other street furniture are also permitted. Temporary exhibitions or mini-galleries in the form of stands, which can be freely arranged throughout the space, are also permitted. This section features concrete seats in elliptical shapes. The square’s dominant feature is the fountain, located in its central point and providing relief on hot days. The fountain basin houses an island, a small jungle, an oasis of relaxation, with the greatest density of greenery. The upward-flowing streams of water, illuminated by multicolored light sources and enlivened by sound, not only provide refreshment on hot days but also become a place for adults to relax and for younger visitors to play. This green space features a large number of benches for resting. It’s a convenient spot for both residents and tourists seeking a moment of relaxation. In the eastern part of the park, there’s a restroom block, accessible almost directly from the sidewalk on Nadmorska Street.

Beach Access
The access is designed as a flight of stairs, nestled against the promenade footbridge. A wide flight of stairs leads the user from the park square down to the promenade level and ultimately to the beach, respecting the existing terrain, amidst the lush greenery of the existing tall trees and shrubs growing on the cliff. The flights of stairs consist of a maximum of 10 steps, culminating in a wide landing allowing for lingering and admiring the views. A viewing platform dominates the access. The greenery on the cliff could provide a recreational space accessible from intermediate landings, and ultimately a grandstand/spectator area for potential events. The access leads to an intermediate level – a terrace equipped with a passenger lift, enabling vertical access for wheelchair users, the elderly, and strollers. Optionally, additional changing rooms or storage areas integrated into the promenade structure could be installed on this level. From this terrace, steps radiating out onto the beach, smoothly descending into the sand, and a ramp in the form of a walkway with a gentle (<6%) slope, leading to the planned promenade, lead us further to the beach. The steps and walkway surround the planned public restroom facility, which has been additionally enclosed with a screen and changing rooms made of the same material as the walkway cladding.

Promenade
At the foot of the cliff, a promenade was designed to connect the proposed design with Rose of the Winds Square, located approximately 550 meters to the east.
The promenade is a 4.0-meter-wide walking and cycling path, parallel to the shoreline, with two additional accesses to the beach via stairs and ramps. Concrete seats are provided every few dozen meters along the promenade, allowing for rest or leisure, for example, admiring the sunrise and sunset. Optionally, additional programs can be proposed for these stops, such as a drinking water station, utility furniture such as armchairs or folding deckchairs, a park chess table, a bicycle repair station, a tourist telescope, a sundial, small sculptures, information boards, etc. If the functional program is expanded, playgrounds or outdoor fitness equipment can be incorporated into the promenade. At the end of the promenade, a ramp for disabled people was designed, connecting to the level of Róży Wiatrów Square near exit no. 5.
